Vintage Cast Iron Balance Scale
Vintage cast iron balance scale estimated to be from the 1930's or earlier. These scales were used in general stores to measure merchandise sold by weight. The tapered scoop pan ends allowed for such items to be easily poured into the customer's bag.
Scales are very much in demand in home decor to add drama and interest to any shelf, mantle or countertop. Lovely as a unique centerpiece. They are perfect in a farmhouse or vintage style home. This all black piece is nice to anchor the space in an all-white décor and as it is a still works, it is even more interesting.
It has a black finish which may have been repainted over the years as it is in very nice condition – we can’t be sure. There are some wear marks on the round plate and on the scoop. But overall it is a heavy, sturdy piece that is still functioning! The base is black cast iron and the scoop is tin.
The scale itself, not including pan, 14 inches L x 6 ½ inches W x 6 inches tall
The scoop measures 12 3/8 inches L x 7 ¼ inches W x 3 inches tall
The overall measurement with the scoop on the scale is 15 ½ inches L x 12 3/8 inches W x 7 ½ inches tall
